Sensory in Formulation Science
The first touch of a personal care formulation is experienced at a level beyond language, but quickly the consumer will begin to describe their opinions using language that may vary by demographic.
At Croda we understand the key role that sensory plays in beauty and personal care. As such, we have global teams dedicated to tactile sensory and texture, who provide reliable data to support the entire lifecycle of formulation development and innovation.
The science of sensory influences many stages of the lifecycle of a formulation.
We see sensory in action from the moment new ingredients are developed and then incorporated into formulations, through to the way formulations are marketed and sold for use by the consumer.
In addition to our dedicated sensory and textures labs, we also have multiple trained sensory panels across the globe. Sensory methodologies are constantly evolving to address industry’s research needs and Croda is at the forefront. We are well-equipped to assist in the selection of ingredients for the creation of formulations, with targeted sensories.
Sensory Lab in Singapore
The Centre of Innovation for Sensory Science, located in Singapore, allows us to access the strong sensory trends within skin care in Asia, while prioritising our existing sensory portfolio and driving knowledge and innovation in this area. We have a trained and regularly calibrated panel of technical sensory experts that produce objective measurements on given sensorial attributes. Using our access to data driven decision-making, this lab pushes boundaries, imagining a world with limitless possibilities in sensory to deliver an exceptional consumer experience.
Textures Lab in France
The Centre of Innovation for Texture Science, located at our Sederma facility in Le Perray en Yvelines, France, focuses on creating new, unique textures through our understanding of ingredient combination. This lab is strategically sited with Sederma, offering both a direct connection to these unique and specialised active ingredients, as well as offering proximity to the high-end and cutting-edge trends within formulation texture coming from France. This lab offers a unique advantage for our customers for both advanced ingredients and formulation development.
The first touch is experienced at a level beyond language, but quickly the consumer will begin to describe their opinions using descriptors that may vary by demographic. How does the language of the consumer relate to the pre-defined technical language of the skin-care formulator? How can this information enhance the product development process?
SenStories utilises reliable, reproducible methodology to connect insights on consumer perception and language choice with the knowledge that ingredient combination and colloidal structure are responsible for a given sensory. This enables predictive ingredient selection for the development of formulations with targeted, desired sensories - saving the formulator valuable time whilst ensuring alignment with consumer expectations.
