Your Holiday DIY Facial at Home
With the extra time we have at home, let’s set holiday gift wrapping aside and take some time to pamper ourselves with a much deserved facial. Here are some simple tips to ensure our skin stays cheery and bright this season.
According to Allure, How to Give Yourself a Spa-Level Facial at Home, at home beauty and pampering does not have to be hard. In the article, facialist Joanna Vargas states to “Start with a double cleanse. With any type of facial, the first step should always be to cleanse in order to prep the skin and start with a clean palette.”
To allow for more uniform skin radiance, the article goes on to list exfoliating as an important next step. “This leaves skin polished and super clean.” This is also a great way to detox and re-energize skin after a full day of digital gatherings or wearing a face covering. Cue in the, new and not so friendly term, "maskne".
Once clean and smooth, opt for a mask designed to erase signs of fatigue and restore radiant looking skin. Vargas says, “The bottom line on face masks is to treat whatever issue you have going on. Some of the most common conditions she treats with masks include dehydration, dullness, sensitivity, breakouts or oiliness, lack of firmness, and sun damage.”
Finally, take some time to massage in a hydrating moisturiser or serum to lock in moisture for a luxurious and luminous finish.
Once all the work of cleansing, exfoliating, and masking is over and you are in the midst of a gentle facial massage, remember to be creative and enjoy! Vargas says to "create a spa-like ambiance.” Light some candles or play your favourite music to set the mood.
Happy Holidays! Now you can go back to wrapping your gifts and indulging in your favourite sweet treat. You deserve it!
