Add to favourites
Hibiscus was originally grown in Ancient Egypt and throughout Southeast Asia. It is one of the few plants whose flowers are edible. The virtues of the hibiscus flower have been well known since ancient times. In India, it is commonly used to treat dandruff and heal the skin. Its flower is still traditionally used by the Egyptians for its medicinal (anti-inflammatory, energy source) and cosmetic (emollient, protection) properties. This flower from Africa is an ingredient of Bissap a traditional tangy drink that brings vitality and guarantees energy. In African folk medicine, the drug is prescribed, among other things, for its spasmolytic and antibacterial properties. Aqueous extracts of hibiscus flowers are said to lower the blood pressure. Hibiscus extract is beneficial for softening skin and reducing wrinkles as it works as a natural emollient. Due to its antiseptic and wound-healing actions, it is also ideal for inflamed skin and scalp, for the treatment of eczema and dandruff. Very rich in anthocyans powerful antioxidants the hibiscus is traditionally used in herbal medicine for its anti ageing virtues.
