The Latin name calendae means “first day of the month” in reference to its long flowering, almost throughout the whole year.
Its shining golden flower opens to the light and closes at night, following the trajectory of the sun and earning the name “the Sun’s fiancee”.
In the 12th century it was recommended for its soothing and healing action and today it is used to treat skin diseases like irritations, burns, cuts, dryness and redness.
