Cosme-Phytami™ Calendula EC

Cultivated by the Egyptians, Greeks, Hindus and Arabs, marigold is a popular garden plant that grows in Europe. Marigold has been valued for many centuries for its exceptional healing powers and is particularly notable in the treatment of wounds. In the 12th century, the plant was found in monastery gardens, where it was also valued as a spice. St. Hildegard prescribed marigold as a remedy for certain intestinal and scalp ailments. Albert the Great recommended it against hepatobiliary disorders, insect bites and snake bites. In the 16th century, the botanist Matthiole prescribed marigold as an eyewash to soothe eye inflammations. Calendula is famous in folk medicine for its sudorific, depurative, emmenagogic and healing properties. The flower was applied directly to the skin to promote healing and soothe inflamed or slightly burned skin. In the past, a yellow dye was extracted from the flowers and used for fabrics. It was called "poor man's saffron" because the flowers were also used to add colour and taste to certain dishes.
