Lipidami™ Aloe Vera

Aloe Vera is a succulent xerophyte, perfectly adapted to warm, arid habitats; The ancient Egyptians were already familiar with the purgative and healing properties of Aloe Vera three thousand years ago. This plant is also mentioned in the famous Ebers Papyrus, one of the most ancient medical treatises (15th Century B.C.). In the 4th Century B.C., Aristotle is said to have convinced Alexander the Great to conquer the African island of Socotra to obtain enough Aloe Vera gel to heal his soldiers' wounds. According to the prescriptions of Dioscorides, the Greeks used Aloe Vera gel to treat contusions, skin afflictions and eye diseases. At the beginning of the 12th Century, the School of Salerno regarded Aloe Vera as a valuable remedy. The plant was imported to the West Indies and America by the Spanish in the 17th Century and is now listed in the Pharmacopoeias of these countries. In Guatemala, Aloe Vera gel is used to massage children's stomachs, and in poultices to treat wounds, skin ailments and bone fractures. The Amerindians also use it to treat blisters and insect stings. In Ayurvedic medicine Aloe Vera juice is used as a laxative and a vermifuge, to treat haemorrhoids and to regulate menstruation. Aloe Vera was revered by the Egyptians who regarded it as the 'immortality plant' and offered it as tributes during funeral ceremonies for their pharaohs.
