Solaveil Inorganic Sunscreen Guide
Size is Everything! The primary particle size of the metal oxide (TiO2 or ZnO) within a dispersion is directly related to the level of transparency on the skin, as well as to the attenuation spectrum. The product family is plotted on the x-axis by the average critical wavelength which is important in meeting the broad spectrum claim. Plotted on the y-axis, is the activity level of the sunscreen active which is key to determining the proper use level in formulation. The size of each circle is related to the primary particle size as measured by the X-ray disc technique, which is a more conservative method than dynamic light scattering (DLS). The background in the graph is a whitening gradient which gives you an indication of the level of whitening associated with each product family. SOLAVEIL ABC and SOLAVEIL SpeXtra can be used as a single active ingredient to meet the FDA’s broad spectrum claim, in addition the combination of SOLAVEIL SENSATION and SOLAVEIL CLARUS ZnO can also be used to meet the claim.
