Asian pennywort is found in wide parts of South Africa, Ceylon, India, China and Pakistan. Reputed for calming and stabilising, Centella asiatica is a Ayurvedic plant, listed in the Chinese pharmacopoeia. It has a long and traditional past in the treatment of skin problems in India and in Sri Lanka where it is used to accelerate the healing of small wounds, chapped skin, superficial burns and varicose ulcers. The plant contains components that are said to have a good antibacterial and healing effect. Centella has a phlebotonic and anti-swelling action by activating the blood circulation, it brings renewed suppleness to the walls of the veins.
