Bladderwrack is brown algae found in abundance in the Baltic Sea, the Mediterranean Sea and the Atlantic Ocean. In some Asian countries such as Japan, this algae is part of the food consumed regularly. Its action on the skin is caused by the combined action of various biological substances like sugars, minerals, proteins and amino acids, antioxidants, vitamins and chlorophyll. The polysaccharide - amino acid complex which is contained in the seaweed has the effect of a natural moisturiser. According to Dogliani, seaweed extracts help against the ageing of the skin by rehydration, tightening and toning. They delay the degeneration of the cells. Also, they are used on cellulite (in baths) and for weight loss.
