Cithrol PGTL is a non-ionic water-in-oil emulsifier that offers outstanding efficiency and versatility. This high-performance system is 100% bio-based and a great alternative to traditional PEG based systems.

Figure 1. A plot to show the sensory space for formulations containing Cithrol PGTL The scattered results show that the formulations tested display differing sensory properties, including transformative characteristics, for example formulation 'd'. Formulation ‘d’ represents 'Fresh Burst Face Cream' (ZA0068), the sensory of which transforms during the rub-out stage, from an initially rich texture to a light skin feel. This plot only looks at six formulations containing Cithrol PGTL, however it confirms that a vast array of formulations with an abundance of different textures and formats can be created.
It is a common misconception that W/O emulsions are always thick, heavy and sticky. This does not have to be the case. Cithrol PGTL allows the formulator to get creative and experiment with a large variety of formulation types and sensories. Various formulations containing Cithrol PGTL were analysed by the trained sensory panel at Croda and the results plotted in relation to each other on a scale of light to rich and fluid to viscous, as can be seen in Figure 1. below.
